Hainan Eight Tones

Hainan Eight Tones, listed in the intangible cultural heritage, is a combining of eight local instruments’ music. The eight instruments are yehu, trichord, surna horn, pipe, flute, gong, drum and cymbals. The Traditional Hainan Eight Tones include instruments, musical compositions and the bands.

 

 

Most of Hainan Eight Tones are Hainan traditional folk instrumental music created by folk artists characterized with strong Hainan native culture, such like Yehu made of coconut, Surna made of Hainan rosewood, pipe made of local bamboo and drum made of local wood, etc.

 

 

 

Firewood-Gathering Dance of Li

 

Firewood-Gathering Dance of Li is also known as Bamboo Dance or Zhuan-Sha of Li dialect. It is the most representative dance of Li and has been listed of the first batch of state-level non-material cultural heritages.

 

Firewood-Gathering Dance of Li originates in ancient Yazhou, today Sanya City in Hainan Province. It is a representative folk dance of Li colored with strong local country flavor with a history of hundreds of years.
The dance is simple and vigorous for participation. It is a good form of mass activities. Now it has been widely spread in Southeast Asian countries and praised as “a rare aerobics in the world”.
